15 Lions Clubs Join Forces With MBPJ To Raise Awareness On Plastic Pollution

Lions Clubs from the Klang Valley, MBPJ set to launch a campaign on Saturday, July 15, aimed at reducing the use of plastic.

PETALING JAYA, July 12 – A total of 15 Lions Clubs from the Klang Valley have joined forces with the city council of Petaling Jaya or Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBPJ) to help raise awareness on the harmful effects of using plastic straws.

Towards this, they will be launching a nationwide programme called “Sip Smart, Choose Paper” at the Starling Mall in Putrajaya this Saturday, July 15.

In a press release here today, the organisers of the event said the event was open to the public and they were hoping to see families with parents and children turn up the event to support their efforts towards reducing the use of plastic.

Plastic pollution in the recent years, particularly in the ocean, have raised the risks for marine life and the nationwide campaign is expected to raise awareness about the many dangers that lie in a single, innocent-looking plastic straw. There have been reports of marine life like fish and turtle losing their lives after ingesting colourful plastic products floating in the waters.

Various activities have been planned at the event, which will run from 2pm to 4pm at Level 3, Eagle Nest, Starling Mall, Putrajaya.
