Salahuddin laid to rest in Serkat, Pontian

A solemn farewell for Allayarham Salahuddin Ayub at the Masjed Jamek in Serkat, Pontian.

PONTIAN, July 24: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim joined the family and friends of the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub as they bid their final farewell to the former Domestic Trade and Cost of Living minister who was buried at the Jalan Sulong Muslim cemetery in Serkat here today.

Earlier the prime minister led the funeral prayers for Salahuddin at the Masjed Jamek in Serkat here.

He had also conveyed the condolences from Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah to Salahuddin’s family.

In a later Facebook posting, Anwar described Salahuddin as a thick and loyal friend, and thanked him for for all his “services and good deeds for the people and the country”, adding that his legacy of grace will be continued.

Leaders, from both the ruling party and Opposition had started conveying their condolences as well as their admiration for the late minister, as news broke of his demise on Sunday night, describing his as hardworking and tireless in his efforts to keep the prices of food items in control.

Salahuddin died at the Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in Alor Setar, Kedah following an emergency surgery for brain haemorrhage on Saturday. He was 61.
