KOTA BHARU, Nov 8: The Jeli member of Parliament (MP), Zahari Kechik, has become the latest elected representative from Bersatu to declare his support for the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim effective today.
Zahari said the decision was made after he had fully reviewed, scrutinised and considered the problems faced by the people regarding the cost of living currently.
He said the decision was also made due to the pressing need to enhance basic necessities and the importance of continuing with development in the Jeli parliamentary constituency.
“I am aware that the people’s welfare must be prioritised and development must continue without compromise. In these challenging times, I, as the MP, need to provide the best service for the people in the Jeli parliamentary constituency,” he said in a statement on Facebook today.
Zahari said although he voiced his support for the Prime Minister, he will be obedient and loyal to Bersatu and remain a Bersatu party member.
He added that he was ready to face disciplinary action for breaching party rules in his decision to ensure that voters and people in the Jeli parliamentary constituency will not be victims of the current situation and will not miss out on receiving all forms of development and assistance from the federal government.
In the statement, Zahari also declared his support for any policies and initiatives that the government will undertake to enhance the country’s economy and safeguard the welfare and interests of the people.
Zahari said his support will continue until the next general election.
“I wish to emphasise that my declaration of support for the Prime Minister is without any coercion, influence or pressure from any party, and (instead) it was made willingly for the sake of the Jeli constituents.
“May Allah S.W.T bless me and to Allah S.W.T I surrender,” he said.
Previously, three other Bersatu MPs – Mohd Aziz Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan) – also pledged support for Anwar’s leadership.
