KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 25: Perbadanan Tabung Pembangunan Kemahiran (PTPK) or the Skills Development Fund Corporation has collected a total of RM130 million in loan repayments from students who had taken loans from the body which was set up to provide loans to students for the payment of fees, educational equipment and skills training.
A statement issued by the Human Resources Ministry here today said that the amount collected for this year was 52.90 percent from a target of RM315 million it had set for the year. The amount as of October was also an increase from a total of RM116.7 million (39.72 percent) collected in the corresponding period of 2022.
It said the number of new accounts registered by borrowers for repaying loans also rose in the year to 250,422 from 222,423 accounts in 2022.
The amount of collection in the repayment of loans taken for skills training through the Employees Provident Fund Account 11 also saw a rise at RM4.34 million compared with RM0.82 million in 2022.
Various efforts and initiatives taken by PTPK resulted in the increased collection of loan repayments, the statement further added.
These included approaching borrowers through programmes like PTPKasih, as well as the promotion of Jom Bayar dan Menang or Pay and Win programmes as well as the opening of various channels for borrowers to make their payment.
For 2024, PTPK is looking at collecting RM450 million in loan repayments, the statement said, adding this showed that the body was serious in recovering the loans given out so that the Human Resources Ministry can continue to provide loans for the upcoming generation of Malaysians seeking Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
