The new year has just emerged and February is already here in a whirlwind. The first two days of CNY and Valentine just came and went.
For me, January was occupied with a trip to the Alor Setar GH for a follow-up and more movies to watch at home.
There were also numerous hogwash calls coming through the mobile and land lines. For instance, a pre-recorded voice mail came through to say that I have a package yet to be claim from a courier service and there was a final warning from the Inland Revenue Department to pay up my unpaid taxes.
Trumping the list was a call from a telco company stating that my internet service will be suspended due to reasons they can’t reveal unless I provide them with my bank account and passwords. What crap, really!
This brings me to an hour and forty-five minutes of a movie which I loved over two big bowls of fried rice with an extra-large mug of caffeine infusion. The Beekeeper, with the leading role played by Jason Statham as Adam Clay, captured my interest.
Jason is the perfect guy for the movie focusing on one man’s brutal campaign for vengeance after it’s revealed that he is a former operative of a powerful and clandestine organisation known as Beekeepers.
The Beekeeper is a 2024 American action thriller film directed by David Ayer and written by Kurt Wimmer. Co-stars include Emmy Raver-Lampman, Josh Hutcherson, Bobby Naderi, Phylicia Rashad and Jeremy Irons.
It scored 6.7 stars with a whopping total of 19,000 IMBD users. Roadshow Films, an Australian distributor, somewhat underrated the movie initially and released it to a handful of cinema screens, thinking that it would fizzle away quickly.
But due to strong word of mouth and the movie’s strong box office, Roadshow Films elevated the screen count to accommodate the increased appeal.
The Beekeeper made a great impact in Australia, out-grossing other films like Night Swim and Ferrari that got bigger releases.
The Beekeeper unfolds with a retired schoolteacher, Eloise Parker, living by herself in the Massachusetts countryside. But she has a tenant in her barn, Adam Clay, leading a quiet life as a beekeeper.
One day, Eloise falls for a phishing scam and is robbed of over $2 million, the majority of which belongs to a charity organisation she manages. Devastated, she commits suicide.
Clay finds her body and is immediately arrested by FBI agent Verona Parker, Eloise’s daughter. Coincidentally, Clay’s birth date from the FBI file is Feb 26, 1967, which is Jason Statham’s actual birth date. After Eloise’s death is ruled as suicide, Clay is released.
Verona tells him that the group that robbed Eloise has been on the FBI’s radar for a while but is difficult to track. She is pessimistic that they will ever be brought to justice even if they are found out.
Shattered and seeing his compassionate landlord committing suicide after losing her charity’s funds to a scammer, Clay, a former “Beekeeper” operative, seeks justice for Eloise.
Clay then contacts the Beekeepers, a mysterious group, to find the scammers responsible for triggering the suicide. He then sets forth on a ferocious, brutal campaign for vengeance upon some members of the Beekeepers, a highly skilled and dangerous clandestine organisation tasked with protecting the United States, and operating above and beyond governmental jurisdiction. Isn’t that super-duper awesome?
The right man for the right job to eliminate bad hats. Jason Statham’s acting was worthy of attention. I’d bet my last ringgit after watching this movie that all of you would wish upon a falling star for a real life Beekeeper at your side.
We often read and hear almost every day about scammers looting some people’s hard-earned savings. A quote from Adam Clay: “Stealing from an elderly person is like stealing from a child. In some ways, it’s worse. When someone hurts a child, there are people who care, and the parents will step in quickly. When someone hurts an older person, they are often left to face the hornets alone.”
Naturally there will be those who play by the book,amd a standing on one leg, insisting that the law should take its course. Ironically, the movie’s money trail shows the dirty money trail leads all the way up to POTUS, the President of the United States Of America, and in this case, a female president!
One of the jobs of a beekeeper is to kill the queen of a bee hive if the queen produces unproductive off-springs in order to maintain a healthy environment in the bee colony.
In the movie, it happens that the number one man of this scamming establishment is the son of the woman president! Can a single man breach through some 4,600 Secret Service employees?
A good watch as your mind will be buzzing with the story’s narratives.
