KUALA LUMPUR, April 14: The government is closely monitoring the latest situation in the Middle East, the position of the financial market and its potential impact on Malaysia, BERNAMA reported Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as saying.
He has also called for all parties to play a role to ensure that tensions in the Middle East do not escalate further for the sake of global interest and peace.
Earlier today, BERNAMA reported Anwar saying that the government would be convening a special meeting in the evening following Iran’s retaliatory attack on Israel.
The meeting, involving relevant ministers and ministry officials, would look at immediate measures that need to be taken, including the repatriation of Malaysians in the affected countries.
“The tension and conflict currently occurring between Iran and Israel stem from the Zionist Israeli regime’s attack on the Iranian Consulate (in Syria), which actually violates international law, and violations usually provoke responses,” he said.
Anwar said this to newsmen after officiating the Fifth International Convention of Dr B.R. Ambedkar and the commemoration of the late Indian jurist, economist, social reformer and political leader’s 133rd anniversary here today.
