Dream to serve comes true for Partiben

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 22: When Partiben Madurai Veeran was recently called to the Bar, all he could think of how it was all coming together fianally – the opportunity to realise his his long-held dream of serving the people, especially the underprivileged in matters of the law.

“For years, I have been working towards this, and finally the opportunity has come for me to do what I wanted, to give legal assistance to those from the underprivileged categories, the economically challenged and those truly in need of legal representation,” said Partiben who had pursued his legal studies while holding working full time jobs for the past few years.

In an interview recently with Weekly Echo, Partiben said his working life exposed him to many situations where he had witnessed personally the struggles of some people.

“Many of them from the lower income category do not own a place of their own, and they often face difficulty getting loans, and this is group I hope to help. The service will be offered on a probono basis or at special rates, depending on their financial situation,” said Partiben, who was also under a Perdana Fellowship program with the Ministry of Housing and Development.

“Another motivation to pursue a career in criminal law is to advocate for those who cannot afford legal representation and to safeguard the rights of the innocent. The justice system can often feel impenetrable for marginalized individuals, leaving them vulnerable to wrongful accusations and harsh penalties,” he said, adding that he also hoped to contribute to meaningful reforms that promote a more equitable legal landscape for all.

Partiben who did his earlier education in Klang and Shah Alam, gained a Bachelor of Jurisprudence from University of Malaya before pursuing his Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP). He did his chambering with Pari & Partners.( Criminal litigation).
