PETALING JAYA: Malaysian authors Panirselvam Ayadurai and his daughter, Gayatri Panirselvam, who recently published a book on accountancy, “Essentials of Financial Accounting, Focus on Fundamentals, Vol-1” , hope their comprehensively written book, will offer accountancy students a supplementary guide as they pursue a career in accountancy.

The book, with a total of 26 chapters (16 chapters in volume 1), and covering the various topics of the financial accounting practice, took more than 8 years of hardwork, research as well as regular updating with the current requirements, said the authors.

For main author, Panir, a retired accountant and lecturer, working on the book has been one long journey, filled with many challenges but a fulfilment nevertheless of his dream to craft a comprehensive book that would help accountancy students understand and appreciate the fundamentals of accountancy.

Speaking to Weekly Echo, he said the book was aimed at college students who are studying and majoring in the accounting and finance discipline.

“This book is catered for year 1 and year 2 degree and others students specialising in financial accounting and reporting. The study text comes with 26 Chapters and topics that cover more than adequately, and would meet local syllabus requirements.”

Panir, who was also assisted by his daughter Gayatri with research for the book, said: “Students can also use this textbook to supplement their main course and they will not be disappointed as we have made it easier to understand the topics with simple and clear explanations by illustrative examples to guide the students.”

Keith Thong, Chairman of the Malaysian Book Industry Chamber, who was present at the launch said physical books were still the preferred choice for various segments of books.

“Nothing can replace the look and feel of holding and reading a print book and creative technology had enhanced the user experience by having much more beautiful printed books. Even e-readers try to emulate the look and feel of a print book that is easier on the eyes”.

Keith Thong, Chairman of the Malaysian Book Industry Chamber.

Thong, who is also President of the Malaysian Booksellers Association, said that printed textbooks would also contain the essential content required by the syllabus.

Also present at the launch were President of the Malaysian Press Institute, Datuk Yong Soo Heong, leading public accountants in Malaysia including Seelan Chelliah, Managing Partner of Inpana and Associates, B. Jaya Sangar of Jaya Sangar and Co Chartered Accountants, Paran Puvanesan, Partner Akina Deals Advisory and Kaliswaran Sinniah, Partner Kalis & Co.
