KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 22 – The new Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob today called on Malaysians to consider themselves as members of a large family and put aside the barriers of race and religion and come together to bring the country out of the Covid-19 crisis and the consequential economic downturn.
The strategy adopted by the government to fight the Covid-19 will continue but with more enhancements and improvisation, he said.
In his maiden speech as the new prime minister aired live today by television stations, Sabri Yaakob also offered the Opposition parties participation in the National Recovery Plan and the Special Committee on Covid-19. He called on all MPs to put aside their differences and join forces to work for the future of Malaysia.
He also said it was an era for equality, and that all Malaysians should consider themselves as part of one big family and help one another out as it is usually practiced in the family concept.
He said he also understood what Malaysians were going through in the pandemic, having lost their jobs, income and going through all sorts of hardships, as he came from a large, farming family that had also faced a lot of difficulties.
He described the Covid-19 as the common enemy that all had to fight together.
The government will continue to enhance the country’s health system, with input from experts from the public health sector.
