KUALA LUMPUR, April 20 – A tiger, which was caught at the Kg. Charuk Sireh in Sik, Kedah on April 13, after it was said to have attacked the livestock of farmers in the village a few days earlier, has been released into the wild.
Caught by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks Peninsular Malaysia (Perhilitan), following complaints from the villagers, the tiger was later safely released into a “suitable habitat”, Perhilitan said in Facebook posting Monday.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the Perak state’s Perhilitan department was reported to have caught a wild female elephant, this time in Kampung Chepor, Lenggong on Saturday.
The elephant, estimated to be 27-years old, was also caught following complaints from residents in the village and Felda Chepor that the elephant had been destroying their rubber and oil palm crops, National News Agency BERNAMA reported.
Perak Perhilitan Director, Yusof Shariff said the elephant will be relocated to the Royal Belum Forest Reserve on Wednesday with the help of staff from the Kuala Gandah National Elephant Conservation Centre.
