KLANG, Nov 17 – “Rain or shine, I will definitely cast my ballot in the coming 15th General Election,” said trainer Renukka Kandiah from Taman Palm Grove here, whose house was affected in the flash flood that hit several parts of Klang late Wednesday evening.
A certified trainer, coach and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) practioner, Renukka, who lives in a residential area close to the Tunku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital here, said her late father was very active in politics and she and her family intended to live up to his spirit of exercising their voting rights.
“Of course, every time it rains, we do get a bit panicky. It was not any different when it started raining Wednesday evening and went on till early morning. But it was not as bad as it was in December. I lost all my furniture back then and I had to get a new set of sofa.
“I think the Light Rail Transit being developed nearby my place is also contributing to the flash floods, but I hope Saturday will be clear. We intend to set out early to vote,” she said.
She also hoped Klang will soon see better flood management, “so that people can stop worrying about what they are going to lose during the floods.”
Unlike Renuka, at least 800 people living in several other residential areas in Klang meanwhile had to be evacuated to higher grounds early Thursday morning with Botanic Gardens among the affected areas.
Among the proposed mitigation plans for Klang include a river deepening project along the Klang river.
