IPOH, May 28: Reporter-turned-cartoonist Datuk Mohamed Nor Khalid or popularly known as Lat was all smiles today when he received a mock cheque for RM10,000 from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as part of the National Journalists’ Day 2023 celebrations here.
The award was given to outstanding individuals who had contributed to the local media industry.
Lat, 72, was a reporter with Berita Harian and New Straits Times in the early 1970s before he found his true calling in drawing cartoons.
He got a breakthrough when his cartoon was first published in the ASIA Magazine. He gradually found fame when his cartoons appeared in Berita Harian and the New Straits Times.
His works were later compiled into coffee table book formats in titles like LOTS OF LAT, LAT’S LOT and KAMPUNG BOY.
