China to work closely with Malaysia based on consensus

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13: China will work closely with Malaysia towards building a community with shared future based on the consensus reached between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the latter’s visit to Beijing in March.

Zheng Xuefang, Charge d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia, said China’s vision of building a global community with shared future is highly aligned with the Malaysia Madani concept proposed by Anwar.

He said Xi and Anwar have reached an important consensus on building a China-Malaysia community with a shared future during the visit.

“These are milestones in the history of China-Malaysia relations,” he told reporters at a media briefing on the recently released white paper titled ‘A global community of shared future: China’s proposals and actions,’ here, Thursday.

Guided by the important consensus between the two leaders, Zheng said China and Malaysia will take the 50th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations next year as an opportunity to enhance political mutual trust, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, promote high-quality Belt and Road  cooperation and further strengthen people-to-people ties.

Through these efforts, he said the two countries will work together to make deeper and more substantive progress towards a China-Malaysia community with shared future.

Zheng also highlighted China’s readiness to cooperate with Malaysia in promoting scientific and technological innovation to build a global community of shared future.

“We are ready to work with all other countries including Malaysia to create an open, fair, equitable, and non-discriminatory environment for scientific and technological advances, so as to promote the fruits of scientific and technological innovation to benefit the whole world,” he said.

He said China is also actively integrating into global innovation networks and has established scientific and technological cooperation relationships with more than 160 countries.

On the white paper, he said it aims to comprehensively introduce the shared future concept, improve understanding and expand consensus in the international community and reinforce global efforts to realise this vision.

Zheng explained that Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), Global Development Initiative (GDI), Global Security Initiative (GSI) and Global Civilisation Initiative (GCI) are cooperation platforms provided by China to realise the concept of a shared future.

At the regional level, he said China has made progress in establishing communities of shared future with ASEAN, Central Asia, Africa, Arab, Latin America and Caribbean, as well as the Pacific Island countries.

At the bilateral level, China and countries including Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand, Pakistan, Mongolia, Cuba and South Africa have published action plans, released joint statements, or reached important agreements on building bilateral communities of shared future, said Zheng.
