Data Centre Estimated At US$600 Mln To Be Built In Kulai – Teo Nie Ching

KUALA LUMPUR, April 4 – A high performance data center will be built in Sedenak, Kulai valued at an estimated US$600 million, Deputy Communications and Digital Minister Teo Nie Ching said today.

She said the data centre plan had been made possible following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Shanghai DC-Science Co Ltd with MN Holdings Bhd worth US$600 million.

The MoU was signed during Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s first visit to China recently, she said in a statement issued here today.

She said earlier in March, she and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) had met up with Wang Bin, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Shanghai DC-Science and Zhang Bin, the company’s Oversea Investment Senior Advisor, to discuss investments that could be made in Malaysia.

Shanghai DC-Science Co Ltd is a leading data center service provider in China.

Phase 1 of this project is expected to kick start this year and operations are set to begin in the first half of 2024.

“Through MDEC’s effort, we believe that this investment can definitely bring great impact to our country, especially for Malaysia to become the data and digital hub in ASEAN.”
