PRAGUE: Commemorating India’s 77th year of independence, celebrations organised by the Indian Embassy here took place on the morning of August 15. Around 400 people including people of Indian origin attended the event to honour the historical day.
The event was officiated with unfurling the tricoloured flag by Ambassador Hemant H.Kotalwar, accompanied by the National Anthem, Jana Gana Mana. Later in his speech, Ambassador Shri highlighted the diplomatic relations between India and Czech Republic.
It was on 15th of August 1947 when India marked its historical milestone, whereby the nation declared its independence from the 200 years of British rule. Ever since, Independence Day is celebrated every year as to honour the country’s sovereignty from colonial control while paying tribute to all of those who fought for freedom.
As the country celebrated its 77th Independence Day, it was also time to reflect on the country’s journey and celebrate its achievements since the attainment of independence, one of the guests at the event said.
It is estimated that 18 million Indians at present are living outside their country of birth.
