KUALA LUMPUR, April 4 – The final report on the June 1976 Sabah Air plane crash, also known as the Double-Six Tragedy, which took the lives of 11 people including the then Chief Minister of Sabah, was released today.

A statement from Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook today said the process to declassify the report on Sabar Air plane, Nomad N-22B 9M-ATZ, as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on April 5th, was completed on April 6.

“As the Transport Minister responsible for public air transportation and accidents, I have now classified the final report as an open document with the power given to me under Section 2C of Official Secrets Act 1972.”

Effective today, April 12, the report can now be downloaded from the Transport Ministry’s official website at: https://www.mot.gov.my/en/aviation/reports/n22b-nomad.

The final report was completed on January 25, 1977 and was later tabled at the Cabinet on March 1977. However, the findings from the report was not publicly announced.

For the past 47 years, the families of the crash victims never got to know the facts surrounding the crash or the reasons for the crash, Loke said.

Among other prominent persons who died in the crash were Datuk Peter Joinod Mojuntin (State Minister for Housing and Local Government), Datuk Chong Thien Vun (State Minister For Communications and Waterworks) and Datuk Salleh Sulong, who had been the state’s Finance Minister.
