KUALA LUMPUR, July 12: The Malaysian Booksellers Association (MBA) today presented RM100,000 worth of books and magazines to Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) to augment the latter’s collection of reading materials besides complementing its initiative to be a leading digital hub for medical education.
HKL’s new Director Prof. Dato’ Dr Harikrishna K.R. Nair, who received the reading materials on behalf of the hospital, said the collection would enable its patients, staff and visitors to have access to more interesting and useful reading materials.
MBA president Keith Thong and MBA exco member Haji Mohamed Iqbal made the presentation of reading materials, which will be placed at 44 reading corners of the hospital. Also present was Phillip Chay, education activist and past president of the Lions Club, Selangor Majestic.
At their brief meeting, Dr Harikrishna outlined plans to continue enhancing HKL’s role as the Ministry of Health’s flagship hospital, which is also the biggest government hospital in the country with more than 2,300 beds, by optimising services and facilities, and upgrading several key areas like digitising and integrating information systems for improved management and decision-making, enhancing service quality in patient and staff care, and eventually transforming HKL into a premier medical research and training centre.
