MET issues thunderstorms for 5 states, while residents note freakish weather in Subang Jaya

SHAH ALAM, Sept 17: Residents in Subang Jaya experienced a freakish weather suddenly on Tuesday afternoon with very strong and stormy winds but without any rain.

A Malaysian Meteorological Department officer meanwhile confirmed no cloud seeding activity had been undertaken when queried on whether any cloud seeding was taking place in the area. She said it was natural phenomenon.

Meanwhile, MET today issued warnings of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds in Perak (Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim), Kelantan (Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Jeli, Tanah Merah, Bachok, Machang, Pasir Puteh and Kuala Krai),Terengganu (Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Hulu Terengganu, Kuala Terengganu and Marang), Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Bentong, Temerloh and Bera) and the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban, Kuala Pilah dan Jempol), Sarawak (Miri), Sabah (Interior:Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Keningau and Tambunan), West Coast (Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran dan Kota Belud) and Kudat (Pitas dan Kudat) • Federal Territory of Labuan.

It also issued a similar advisory for Selangor but there were no details of the affected districts.

It cautioned that the thunderstorms could be accompanied by heavy rain of more than 20mm/hour in intensity or continuous rain for more than an hour.

MET also issued caution of continuous rain for Perlis, Kedah, Pulau Pinang and Perak till Sept 19 and strong winds in the South China Seas and Straits of Malacca (northern) till Sept 21.
