More than 150 million Indians vaccinated, with 270,000 in last 24 hours

NEW DELHI, May 1 – More than 150 million Indians have been vaccinated to fight the Coronavirus with 270,000 getting their shots in the past 24 hours.

India is due to start its third phase of vaccination today while the country is thick in the throes of a second wave in the COVID-19 virus which increased its number of new cases to 401,993 in the last 24 hours. Its positive cases now stand at 19 million.

According to a statement from the Press Information Bureau, 15.6 million people have also recovered from the virus, with 300,000 recoveries in the last 24 hours.

More than 215,000 people have died due to the virus, while travel into India has been put on hold by several countries.

Many countries have also pledged their support and help to India in its time of need.
