Muslims Urged To Be Mindful On Social Media, Avoid Disrupting Harmony

The Kalimah Toyyibah campaign, initiated by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in August 2024 aims to foster a society that values politeness, courtesy, and wisdom in social interactions among people of different religious and racial backgrounds in Malaysia.

KUALA LUMPUR, March 21 (Bernama) — Muslims are advised to be more mindful when expressing themselves on social media, ensuring that their words do not cause division or disrupt the harmony of Malaysia’s multiracial society.

Chairman of the Muzakarah Committee of the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs Malaysia (MKI) Datuk Dr Nooh Gadot emphasised that upholding good morals in speech and writing is a fundamental religious requirement.

“Islam is a religion that places great emphasis on moral values. Using words that hurt fellow Muslims, offend other races, or incite hatred goes against the teachings of Islam, which places great emphasis on unity and mutual respect,” he said in a statement today.

He said the Kalimah Toyyibah campaign, initiated by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, in August last year aligns perfectly with current challenges, reinforcing the importance of positive and respectful communication.

The campaign aims to foster a society that values politeness, courtesy, and wisdom in social interactions, by making Prophet Muhammad SAW – renowned for his exemplary character and virtues – as the ultimate role model.

“Therefore, I humbly urge all Muslims in Malaysia, as well as people of other races, to be mindful, responsible, and thoughtful when expressing their views on social media.

“May every word we speak bring benefits to both Muslims and non-Muslims alike while preserving the harmony and unity of our beloved nation,” he said.
