
KUALA LUMPUR, April 24 (Bernama) — British High Commissioner to Malaysia Ajay Sharma aims to use his time here to strengthen the UK-Malaysia ties, with a particular focus on trade, investment, technology and education.
In his first official message since taking up the post, Sharma highlighted these four sectors as key drivers of economic growth for both nations.
“Malaysia is an important partner for the United Kingdom,” he said in a message shared on the UK in Malaysia – British High Commission Kuala Lumpur Facebook page.
He added that he hopes the UK and Malaysia can collaborate more closely to address global challenges such as climate change and regional security.
“I am very keen to make the most of the deep and wide-ranging historic links our two countries share,” said the High Commissioner.
Sharma has been appointed the British High Commissioner to Malaysia to succeed Ailsa Terry.
Before this, he had served as the UK Chargé d’affaires to Iran from 2013 to 2015, the British Ambassador to Qatar from 2015 to 2020, and Chargé d’affaires to Turkiye from 2022 to 2023.
