PUTRAJAYA, Dec 14 – The government will not raise the electricity tariff rate for domestic users now, as it will unnecessarily burden the people, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim following the Wednesday Cabinet meeting today.
If there is to be a hike in the electricity tariff rate, it will involve only multinational companies, the very rich companies, big exporters and so on but not the small and medium industries or producers of essentials like food, he said.
With this, the people will not be burdened, although the government will be experiencing a huge strain financially amounting to RM30 billion a year, he said.
