
RAMALLAH, March 10 (Bernama-WAFA) — The Federation of News Agencies of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has inaugurated its first external office in Palestine, located at the headquarters of the Palestine News and Information Agency (WAFA) in Ramallah.
According to WAFA, the opening ceremony was attended by General Supervisor of Official Media in Palestine Ahmad Assaf, OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha, Acting Chairman of the OIC News Agencies Federation Executive Council Ali Al-Zaid, Director-General of the Federation, Mohammad Al-Yami and Palestine’s Permanent Representative to the OIC, Hadi Shibli.
Also present were Consul General of Palestine in Jeddah, Mahmoud Al-Asadi, OIC Assistant Secretary-General for Palestine and Al-Quds Affairs Samir Bakr, as well as heads of news agencies from OIC member states, who participated virtually via Zoom.
Assaf described the event as a historic milestone, saying the inauguration sent a strong message of solidarity with the Palestinian people and their just cause.
“This move reaffirms the Palestinian people’s right to their homeland and the OIC’s unwavering support for this right.
“It is a step towards the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital,” he said.
He highlighted the crucial role of Palestinian official media, particularly WAFA, in amplifying the Palestinian narrative.
He also acknowledged the OIC’s continued support in safeguarding Islamic and Christian holy sites, notably Al-Aqsa Mosque, while assisting Palestinians in their struggle for self-determination, freedom and independence.
