PM appoints Ismail Sabri as Deputy PM

KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 – Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has appointed Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as the new deputy prime minister and has also made Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein a Senior Foreign Minister.

As a senior minister he will now be in charge of the Security Cluster as well, a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) here today said.

The appointments have been presented to the King and is effective immediately, the statement said.

Ismail Sabri and Hishammuddin will still retain their current portfolios respectively as defence minister and foreign affairs minister respectively.

As a Deputy Prime Minister, Ismail Sabri will be able to help the prime minister in the administration of the country and help look into the needs of the people as the country fights an ongoing economic and financial crisis, the statement said.
