SUBANG JAYA, April 1: Heavy smoke continued to be seen from the surrounding areas of Putra Heights near here following a fire caused by a major pipeline gas leak.
Residents living and travelling in the USJ, Subang Jaya areas are reporting in to say that they can still see the smoke.
A spokesman from the Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Department said that the main supply source of the gas had been shut off.
Another source said that the explosion took place at a gas station in the area. But this is yet to be confirmed. Another news report said that several houses nearby had caught fire and people possibly trapped. Some people were also said to have taken relief in a temple in the area.
Meanwhile, in an Instagram posting, Kota Kemuning Assemblyman Preakas Sampunathan said the Seafield-Bandar Saujana Putra roads were currently closed to vehicles as a safety precaution following the incident.

Those headed to south will be redirected to the Seafield Toll Plaza so that they can re-enter the ELITE Highway towards Bandar Saujana, while those heading north will have to exit from the Bandar Saujana Toll and join the ELITE Highway via the Seafield Toll.
He also advised people to check on the traffic via Waze or Google Map before planning on any travel around the area.
Updating on the incident, he said severe damage had taken place to nearby homes and tragically some residents were also hurt.
Communities in the area are also helping, he said, adding that help and support would be given to those affected.
“We are working closely with relevant agencies to coordinate responses to this tragedy,” he added.
