Stop The Attack On Judicial Institution

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 – The Pakatan Harapan Presidential Council today admonished some top UMNO leaders, saying it was shocking and highly disappointing to see some of their statements that seemed to be attacking the country’s judicial institution.

These attacks seemed to have also risen in tandem with the ongoing final appeal hearing of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s SRC International case, said a statement today issued by council members PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Amanah President Hj Mohamad Sabu, DAP Secretary General Anthony Loke and UPKO President Datuk Seri Madius Tangau.

These attacks have been coming from UMNO supporters and ‘cybertroopers’ who had also resorted to making threats including a death threat on Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat.

Such threats are crimes, they said, commending the Inspector-General of Police’s statement that the police will investigate those who had made such threats and ensure that court action will be taken against them.

The judicial institution’s independence must be preserved at all times and its consistency is a must as one of the main pillars in the country’s governance, the PH leaders said.

The police on Saturday also announced that they have arrested a man in connection with the threats issued to the Chief Justice via a social media account. Investigations are ongoing.
