Authorities of Padrakaliamman Temple prefer to keep temple where it is, and ready to coexist with any building

PETALING JAYA, March 20: The authorities of the Sri Dewi Padrakaliamman Temple near Masjid India in Kuala Lumpur today said they would prefer to retain the temple in its current location and were prepared to co-exist with any other building that the land owners were planning on.

At a press conference participated by members of the temple committee and and several lawyers and activists on the “imminent removal and demolition of the 130 year old Dewi Sri Pathrakaliamman Temple off Jalan Masid India,” here today, the solution for the temple to co-exist with the proposed building was proposed.

The Government through Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur had given planning permission for a mosque to be built by a private company on the temple site, according to a statement issued earlier by the organisers of the press conference.

Among those present at the event were former Bar President and Bersih Chair, Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan, lawyer and former Member of Parliament N Surendran, activist Hishamuddin Rais, Lawyers for Liberty Director Zaid Malek and Mandiri from Youth Empowerment Centre.
