KUALA LUMPUR, May 29: Renowned poet T. S. Eliot once said: “The very existence of libraries affords the best evidence that we may yet have hope for the future of man”.
And broadcaster Walter Cronkite did say “Whatever the cost of our libraries, the price is cheap compared to that of an ignorant nation”.
At 10am today (May 29) at the World Trade Centre here, a forum featuring “Knowledge Professionals” on libraries will be held.
Speakers include Dr Mayasari Abdul Majid, Senior Librarian, Nobel International School; Datu Dr Rashidah Bolhassan, Deputy Chairman, Board of Management, Sarawak State Library; Dr Ranita Hisham Shunmugam, Senior Lecturer, Dept of Library & Information Science, Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, Universiti Malaya; and Vira Farhana, Chair of the Working Subgroup, Information and Promotion Services, National Library of Indonesia.
Dr Nor Edzan Che Nasir, Chief Librarian of Universiti Malaya (2007-2017) will moderate the panel discussion.
The forum is part of The One Talk series focusing on current practices along with useful tips from leaders and experts from the publishing, bookselling and books-related world. It is being run in conjunction with the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair, an event being held at the World Trade Centre here until June 2.
The book fair is organised by the Malaysian National Book Council (MBKM) with the cooperation of the Ministry of Education and Malaysian Book Industry Chamber (MBIC).
