KUALA LUMPUR, May 28: In a world where short-form social media content may have gradually taken centre-stage in our daily lives, there are those who still believe that they can influence a return to inculcating good reading habits among the young.
This is where the “Digital Odyssey in Teaching” forum aims to inform teachers and librarians on how to explore strategies on the attractiveness of the written word.
The forum is part of The One Talk, an event that will take place at the Seri Pacific Hotel here from 11am to 12 noon today.
The One Talk focuses on current practices along with useful tips from leaders and experts from the publishing and bookselling world. It is being run in conjunction with the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair, an event being held at the World Trade Centre here until June 2.
The book fair is organised by the Malaysian National Book Council (MBKM) with the cooperation of the Ministry of Education and Malaysian Book Industry Chamber (MBIC).
Today’s session of The One Talk will feature Kasvini Muniandy, Master Teacher of English (GCBI) from SKKT Subramaniya Barathee, and Alastair Cameron, Director of Pickatale, an education-centric publishing company from Britain.
They will explore the use of Artificial Intelligence to generate, curate and develop stunning and high quality immersive reading experiences for primary school pupils so as to develop a love for reading and learning English or other languages, and evaluate the efficacy of News Bites, a publication aimed at informing, engaging and inspiring young minds.
At the same venue on May 29 and 30 (11am to 12 noon), The One Talk will focus on “Learning Resources” by Brenda Sim, business development director of a publishing company that distributes the BBC Earth magazine, and David Choo, manager, digital division, University Book Store Malaysia.
The One Talk is produced and hosted by Keith Thong, Chairman of the Malaysian Book Industry Chamber (MBIC) and President of the Malaysian Booksellers Association (MBA).
